To thrive as a solopreneur means cultivating a profound sense of self-awareness.

I'm talking about getting down and dirty and becoming really comfortable with your fears, limitations, and weaknesses. Followed by building the bravery to confront them head-on so you can set out a plan to overcome them or work within them regardless!

We talk so much about goal setting in the professional landscape, but we don't share enough about what inner doubts and weaknesses hold us back from achieving the success we crave. Facing these, embracing them, and barreling through them is incredibly necessary.

I had this AHA moment yesterday while on a coaching call with a client. Over the past few weeks, we have been working towards increasing his content production on his social channels, specifically via video.

He's incredibly knowledgeable about his theme topic, extremely well-spoken, and not even the slightest bit camera-shy. So what's the hold-up?

It's two basic self-truths:

1. He constantly second-guesses his knowledge (even though he knows better).
2. He wants to do too much all at once. Which causes overwhelm and complete shut-down.

So, what's the first step in overcoming these things?

It's celebrating the fact that we identified them!

These aren't fun or easy revelations to accept. Still, they're necessary if you're insistent on creating and curating a career on your own terms and monetizing your knowledge online.

Now, we focus on working despite them. We aren't going to completely obliterate these mental roadblocks on day one, but we can take steps to work around them.

So what's the plan? We keep it simple.

These are both quite common fears and roadblocks online creators face. Especially when looking to monetize. So here's how to mitigate the possible repercussions of these fears.

On beating the inferiority complex loop: Post it anyway.

If you find yourself getting stuck or unsure if it's "good enough" or "adds enough value," the only directive is to post it anyway. We aren't thinking too much about it. We aren't deep-diving into competitor accounts or looking for validation elsewhere. We are just posting and moving on.

On trying to do THE MOST: Refocus.

Do you often find yourself lingering over another idea or major project that could potentially be monetized later on?

Stop and ask:

Will these additional tasks and wants push me toward my goal of monetizing my knowledge and becoming financially independent?

Or is this a distraction tactic that's keeping me from my goals because I'm afraid of failing at what I really want to accomplish?

Monetizing and creating a business online is just as much a mental game as it is a technical one. You could know exactly what you have to do to build and monetize a community, but if the mental game isn't on point, then I'm sad for all of the potential humans who could have benefitted and grown in their own lives and careers by missing out on the potential knowledge they never knew they needed.

My challenge to you is to ask yourself (and answer truthfully): What is really holding you back from taking the steps to monetize your knowledge online?
